David Yurman Door Pulls
New York, NY
Description: Custom door pulls crafted to look like forged metal; reminiscent of David Yurman’s twisted metal jewelry.
Materials: Cast bronze with a custom patinated finish
Designer: Joseph Jaroff
Story: Joe approached the design as any other art piece, studying the various materials and processes he knew would produce what DY envisioned. From his home shop one weekend, Joe began work with oil-based clay. In an effort to increase its overall strength, Joe commandeered some dog hair from his dog’s hairbrush and kneaded it into the clay. Using hair as a tensil element, the hair allowed the clay to be hammered – forged – like the plastic of red-hot steel. Joe brought his early model and sculpture tools to a meeting with David Yurman and he and Joe sat together sculpting the model, looking for the right texture and feeling. Joe finished it in his shop where he combined the last version with the right twisted effect to resemble the identifying features present in DY jewelry. The end result is the door pulls which are part of the DY worldwide retail design standard.
